Currently at: The Queensland Brain Institute, The University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia.
My early work involved establishing gene expression profiles from mouse models of Down syndrome. The aim here was to identify particular genes on chromosome 21 that were uniquely expressed in expanding cells of the developing brain. These candidates provided leads into understanding why the brain of individuals with DS are smaller on average. I now combine magnetic resonance imaging and gene function studies to understand how the brain of individuals with DS becomes wired in some regions, but miswired in others.
